Shane and Lin are an acoustic duo that performs covers of hits ranging from top forties all the way to old school rock and roll. Each having seen several years of experience in the gigging scene, the two have come together to create a fresh sound with distinct harmonies that is groovy yet easy to the ears.
Shane
The sound of poetic guitar fretwork is rare these days and to classify Shane痴 music as one specific genre or style is impossible. His music mixes a combination of modern alternative and old school popular music with hints of blues, hip-hop, and even bossa-nova. Shane with his gift of an exceptional ear, exhibits a mastery of his instrument yet avoids flashy solos - with the occasional exception.
Shane draws his influence from a great variety of musicians and it is easy to hear the elements that each adds to his sound, such as the mythological folk rock of Jimmy Page, the lyrical approach of Eric Clapton, the aggressiveness of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the sheer creativity, catchiness and mass appeal of the Beatles.
As a youth, Shane was mesmerized by the sounds of local iconic band Heritage, and the initial experience encouraged Shane to eventually enter the music industry to carve a niche. He continues establishing himself in the rock annals of Singapore痴 live scene today with stints across the country痴 most popular night spots, sessions for legendary artistes, and all the while entertaining music lovers with the same fervent passion similar to when he first started out.
Lin
Lin should have been born in the 50s. Since childhood, the lead vocalist of PennyLane and Shane+Lin has been captivated by the sounds of the Old School, from folk legends like Bob Dylan to rock icons like Mick Jagger. Lin's fascination with the era is evident in his passion when performing and in his vocal approach in songs old and new.
The same passion and musical influence is responsible for driving Lin to sing from his heart. As such, his melodies become vessels for his soul, and the added dimension is always felt by the audience. While classic pop and rock is Lin's forte, his fundamental approach to music gives added depth to contemporary covers.
Lin's voice is a rich tenor which makes his singing versatile for music of all genres. His distinctive warm and deep vocal tone is present throughout his extensive vocal range and allows him to do justice to rock anthems and pop ballads alike. In the Singapore live music scene, there are few who can truly be considered to be in their element when singing Old School, but Lin nails it.
